The analysis highlights that the company has an adequate financial position, demonstrating the capacity to withstand adverse economic conditions in the medium and long term.
SENTRA ENERGIA S.p.A. (hereinafter also referred to as "the Company") has been operating in the Italian liberalized electricity and natural gas market since 2013, serving residential customers, businesses, SMEs, and public sector entities. Over the years, the Company has strengthened its nationwide presence through a multi-channel commercial network comprising retail outlets, local partnerships, sales agents, and digital channels, supported by proprietary platforms such as Sentra Hub and Sentra Pay. From an operational perspective, Sentra has progressively enhanced its position across the energy value chain, achieving greater vertical integration and increased autonomy in electricity and gas procurement activities. From a financial standpoint, the Company has delivered sustained growth, supported by improving profitability and rising energy sales volumes. This performance underscores the strengthening of Sentra's competitive position within the Italian energy market.
Key Rating Assumptions
SENTRA ENERGIA S.p.A. continued its growth trajectory in 2025, reporting increases in revenue, operating profitability, and net income, driven by higher energy sales volumes and a strengthened competitive position, while maintaining satisfactory profitability metrics. From a balance sheet perspective, the Company further strengthened its equity base through retained earnings, although its capital structure remains characterized by a relatively moderate level of capitalization and a financial debt position that increased compared with the previous year, yet remains overall sustainable. The balance between short-term assets and liabilities continued to be maintained, supported by adequate liquidity indicators. Working capital remains primarily concentrated in trade receivables, which are subject to structured monitoring and credit management procedures.
SENTRA ENERGIA S.p.A. has a transparent and easily identifiable ownership structure, with AVILA HOLDING S.r.l. holding an 85% controlling stake and ultimately attributable to the Ferrante family. The Company also holds a 10% equity interest in Sentra Servizi S.R.L.. No adverse findings or material negative records have been identified in relation to the shareholders, members of the administrative body, or the Company itself.
Between late 2025 and 2026, the global energy and economic environment has been characterized by heightened uncertainty. Worldwide electricity demand continues to expand, supported by the rapid deployment of renewable energy capacity, particularly solar photovoltaic and wind power, while fossil fuels continue to play a significant role in the global energy mix. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly those involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, have increased volatility in global oil and natural gas markets, contributing to higher inflationary pressures and influencing monetary policy decisions across major economies. In Italy, despite continued growth in renewable electricity generation, the country’s significant dependence on natural gas continues to support elevated energy prices, prompting the Government to postpone the planned closure of certain coal-fired power plants in order to safeguard security of supply.
From a macroeconomic perspective, Italy's economy continued to expand at a moderate pace during the first months of 2026, driven primarily by the services sector, while manufacturing activity remained under pressure due to higher energy costs and weak external demand. Household consumption and private investment recorded only modest growth amid persistent uncertainty and reduced purchasing power. According to the latest projections of the Bank of Italy, real GDP is expected to grow by 0.5% in both 2026 and 2027, before accelerating to 0.8% in 2028. Nevertheless, the outlook remains subject to significant downside risks associated with geopolitical developments, energy commodity prices, and international trade conditions.
